This video explains the Oak Shelterwood method. The first harvest removes a good share of the trees in the management area, but leaves quite a few Oak trees to provide seed (acorns) to begin the new Oak stand, and to provide some shelter to the new Oaks in their early establishment. Once the new growth with a high % of Oak is established, the overstory or shelter will be removed. Then we will manually "release" the Oak with brush saws to maximize the amount of Oak, the growth of the Oak (requiring full sunlight), and the quality of the Oak. This allows us to provide you with the finest Red Oak products you will find anywhere in the world.
